It cuts out a lot of the bullshit. In traditional owner-architect-contractor (OAC) arrangements, significant time and energy is spent coordinating between teams - requests for information (RFIs) fly back and forth - costs balloon, misunderstandings and miscommunications abound, quality control suffers and the owner is often caught in the middle. When your architect is also your builder, there is alignment between intent and execution. It’s also significantly less expensive than traditional OAC structures, since the usual GC Markup and Architecture/Construction Administration fees are rolled together.

We have been frustrated by the current, hyper-fragmented nature of the contemporary building industry, in which various design scopes are outsourced among multiple consultants, created an ever expanding and frequently disconnected team. XXBW seeks a reframing of the collaborative process between architect and builder, where upstream design priorities are informed by building science and the complexities and processes of modern construction.
