What we do.

XXBW is an architect-led design-build firm based in Los Angeles. We specialize in residential design and construction, with an emphasis on hillside development. As both a licensed Architect and General Contractor, we make the building process more seamless and integrated - cutting out a lot of the bullshit. We also offer full architectural services for clients who elect to work with their own contractor.

In traditional owner-architect-contractor (OAC) project set ups, an excessive amount of time and energy is spent coordinating and problem solving between teams. Costs balloon, quality control suffers, and the owner is often caught in the middle. When your architect is also your builder, there is alignment between intent and execution.

How it all started.

Founder, Principal, and General Contractor Lindsay Carlisle Sheron grew up on a farm in Louisiana before moving to the West Coast after grad school. She founded XX BLDG Workshop a decade into her architecture career with the intention of returning the role of the architect to its hands-on roots as master builder - that magic, multi-disciplinary fusion of wild-eyed creativity and gritty practicality. Throughout her practice, she developed an aesthetic voice that reflects her personal values - playfulness, intimacy, love of natural forms, and an emphasis on communal spaces.

Of note is her recently completed case study called “Slopehouse,” in Northeast Los Angeles, for which she served as both designer and general contractor. Completed in 2024, the home is an example for how these ideas can be applied in the context of acontemporary single-family home.

Where we’re headed.

We will always seek to elevate the role of women within the industry, both on the design side and in the trades - we are always looking for opportunities to hire and train a new generation of female builders and design professionals.
